Smokebomb Mondays is a seven-piece ska group from Newtown, CT. Its members are all seniors at Newtown High School, many of whom have been friends since their elementary days. The band started back in the summer of '69... just kidding, the summer of 2010. Besides sharing a common love for awful jokes, they were drawn together by their love of music. Liam Reynolds (lead guitar/ backup vocals/ trombone) started the band with his close friends after realizing his pop punk band was completely unwanted in the local music scene. The other members include Patrick Milano (trumpet), Harrison Buzzi (trombone), Jonah McKeown (sax), Matt Spencer (drums), Tim Eames (bass), and Danny Bittman (lead vocals, guitar). Each member brings influences from a colossal spectrum of musical genres. But ska is the only genre they're able to experiment with all different musicalities. The band has written and performed over 9 original songs, along with a long list of covers. In early 2011, Smokebomb Mondays took 1st place in the Darien BandJam competition, earning them a spot on the roster for the International Festival of the Arts in New Haven later that year, where they performed on the same stage as Yo-Yo Ma, and many others. Other achievements include competing in the finals of the Ridgefield BandJam competition at the Ridgefield Playhouse, after going through a highly selective auditioning process, and of course proceeding through the semi-finals, and briefly working briefly with mentor David Morgan. The band has played at well attended events in their hometown, such as the Saint Rose Parish Carnival and Newtown Festival of the Arts. In addition to all this, Smokebomb has played all around Connecticut, in venues such as The Heirloom Arts Theater, The Space, Tuxedo Junction, Toquet Hall, Newtown Teen Center, Amity Teen Center, Neil's House, and many more. On October 24, 2012, the band released their first official work, "I'd Like to Think the World Is On My Side EP" after a long summer of recording. Future plans include expanding their fanbase and writing more and more songs.
